When fat is more than just fat
Despite exercise and a healthy diet, do fatty deposits on your legs, hips or arms stubbornly remain? Lipoedema is a chronic fat distribution disorder – not a question of discipline.
Up to 10% of all women may be affected. Without targeted treatment, the condition usually progresses and can lead to considerable physical and emotional limitations.

Since October 2025
Liposuction covered by German statutory health insurance – at all stages
In July 2025, the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) decided: since October 2025, German statutory health insurers have covered the cost of liposuction for lipoedema – regardless of the stage. This applies to patients insured in Germany. An individual application to the health insurer is no longer needed.
No more applications
The confirmed diagnosis required by the health insurer is made by a specialist approved for this purpose – we will tell you who is eligible. After referral, the operating surgeon establishes the indication for surgery.
All stages
Until October 2025, cover was limited to stage III. Since then, patients with stage I and II can also benefit from cost coverage.
In line with G-BA requirements
We perform operations covered by statutory health insurance at NATIONALKLINIK Wertheim, a hospital included in the German state hospital plan – using the tumescent technique, as required by the G-BA. Preparation and aftercare remain at the location near you.
